ABOUT US

RANCH HISTORY

Farmhood Fields Ranch and Equestrian Center adds another dimension for guests, horse lovers and students of horsemanship. We believe in equal opportunity and it is evident in the fact that our staff has many talented women managing the various operations at the ranch. You will be greeted by our warm and friendly staff when you arrive, and as you make your way through your day. Our programming offers diverse and unique events, such as ‘women only days’—where you will be able to gain confidence in learning new skills while letting down and just taking in everything the ranch has to offer. Below are some of the things you can do while experiencing the beautiful countryside we call home.

At Farmhood Fields Ranch we strive to be unique. In our riding program, whether you are out on a trail ride, working cattle, or delving into a riding lesson, we place an emphasis on horsemanship. Following the principles of Buck Brannaman and Ray Hunt (Vaquero style horsemanship), our wranglers and horses focus on foundational concepts and skills to ensure they are safe and gentle, and capable of performing a variety of tasks. We operate in the arena, take our guests comfortably out on the trails, work cattle, and help teach riders the fundamentals of groundwork. Everyone here loves what they do (both humans and equines!) which translates into a fun adventure for our guests. We invite you to come out and experience it for yourself!

WHAT WE OFFER

PROGRAMMING

All of our ranch horses are gentle and experienced, allowing you to explore the trails and meadows around the ranch. They are also educated in the finer points of riding. You’ll experience something quite a bit different than the usual “head to tail” riding that you might find at a dude ranch. All of the horses have their own personality and you are sure to have a favorite by the end of your visit!

* If you would like to learn more about building your horsemanship skills ask us about lessons!

All trail rides are guided by our wranglers. Bring your horse* or ride one of our well-trained ranch horses. Trail rides are offered 5 days a week, reservations required. For Beginner/intermediate/advanced Riders. 1 – 2-hour options. Additional 30 minutes of instruction for all rides.

Our cow working lesson program is unique to this area. From horseback, you’ll learn how to gather cattle from their pasture, move them to a new location, cut one out of the herd, and even do some cattle games like navigating them though an obstacle course! Available during Peak Season, reservations required. For intermediate & advanced riders. Approximately 2.5 hours per session.

Can’t get enough of the horses but prefer not to ride? Check out a unique carriage ride with our impressive team of Percheron drafts, Goose & Maverick, or our mule team of Sugar and Spice! They will take you on a magical tour of the FHF’s countryside in one of our comfortable carriages.

Guests will head out to explore the trails horseback around the ranch. We’ll take a break at a scenic spot where you can relax and eat your lunch while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. For the longer rides, we’ll have the Chuckwagon meet you at the lunch site with a hearty western style lunch prepared for you. After you have had your fill, you’ll will ride back to the ranch where you can participate in more fun farm activities if you’d like. This option is the best way to enjoy several hours in the saddle! Peak Season, By reservation only. Inquire about private lunch rides for corporate /business groups!

Participants will utilize the pastures or arena to learn skills and will team up with wranglers to do a variety of games on horseback, obstacle trail courses to designing choreographed rides to music, calvary exercises, and even playing soccer on horseback!

By reservation only. 1 hour, private and group options. Arena horsemanship,  groundwork, cow working and trail lessons available for beginner through advanced riders. Gain the skills necessary to improve confidence and communicate better with your horse. We place a strong emphasis on quality horsemanship based on Buck Brannaman and Ray Hunt style of riding, that you can apply to a multitude of different things to do with your horse. Our ranch horses are educated in this style as well so you can focus on learning!

MEET THE TEAM

JANICE SIBILIA

EQUINE PROGRAM MANAGER

Janice has been in love with horses and ranch life since she can remember. Riding since the age of 8 in many disciplines, she followed her dream out west where she worked at a cattle & Guest ranch in Montana for 9 years, studying Buck Brannaman Horsemanship and teaching guests to ride, work cattle, and explore this spectacular way of life. She also was the office manager responsible for all things guest related. Janice currently owns a quarter horse who she competes on in ranch riding and cutting. Returning to NY in 2022, she is very excited to be a part of the FHF Ranch family and looks forward to riding with our guests and members, and ensuring they have a wonderful time here.

SIENNA WILD PEARSON

WRANGLER

Sienna was raised on a small family farm in western Massachusetts. Her equine career has included positions with outfitters and ranchers in Sun Valley, Idaho, Jackson Hole and Cody, Wyoming, Meeker, Colorado, and Abiquiu, New Mexico. She has trained under professionals in both Western and English riding and spent time rehabilitating race horses for adoption. Her other adventures include work as an intern at a shark research station in Fiji and a big cat preserve in Namibia. ALEX VERZINO

Alex started riding horses when he was 13 years old. He’s explored a few different styles of riding in both English and western disciplines while living in several states from coast to coast. Although he spent a few years pursuing a career as a personal trainer in the fitness industry, he never lost his passion for horses. Alex worked at a guest ranch in Montana as a wrangler seasonally for 3 years, learning about the California Vaquero style of horsemanship and Buck Brannaman’s methodology. His enthusiasm and willingness to learn and contribute led to his hiring as a wrangler following his internship. After his seasonal time in Montana, He came home to the east coast for family, and new opportunities. He is always working towards improving his skill sets with each horse he rides and each rider he has the pleasure to meet. His commitment to share lessons learned with riders helps to help them gain confidence and success in their journeys. He strives to be the best horseman and cowboy he can be to help horses and people along the way.

KRISTA PENNEY

TITLE

Krista is from the big heart of New Jersey. She has been riding horses since about 5 years old. Although she did not grow up in a horse town, her dad did, and she found places to ride and keep the love. Krista competed in all sorts of shows, but primarily hunter/jumper. At age 15 she stopped showing and was riding pleasure, western style. And says that was when the real fun began. She learned about becoming a horseman and not just a rider. She eventually bought her own horse — After that the student became the teacher, and she has helped a lot of people develop a great relationship with their horse. At FHF, Krista looks forward to teaching as well as learning from all that’s about to come!
